Chapter Text
It was the last day of spring vacation. Leorio was no longer a junior high student. Starting tomorrow, he would be in senior high school. Not only that, it’s York New Private High School, a well-known advanced high school. How did an ordinary guy like himself manage to score a place there, Leorio doesn’t even know. It was no question that amazing students like Kurapika and Melody got in, but him? Leorio is just some guy. One with a big dream of course, but nothing special.
There was a buzz from his back pocket. He pulled out his phone to see a text from his little brother, Gon.
Gon
dont forget groxery
aunt mito will get angry again
Leorio smiled to himself just from staring at the screen. In his other hand, the bags of groceries he went out that evening to get for dinner. Aunt Mito is a kind woman who provided a home for him when he had none. He loves the small family, with just her, Gon, granny, and himself. Other than his dream to become a doctor who could provide for those who could not afford treatment, he also hopes to meet Ging Freeccss one day and give him a firm punch in the face.
Leorio
Already got it ;)Gon
goodie :D
dont get hurt on youre way back
He chuckled at the message and the spelling errors. As if he could somehow manage to land himself in the hospital between his grocery trip that’s a walking distance from home.
Leorio
Maybe I’ll get hurt on purpose to not go to school tmr >:3cGon
dunt do that!
Gon has that strange effect on people, Leorio was already grinning ear to ear from just reading his innocent texts. Before he could reply, however, he turned his head toward the obnoxious ringing of—bell?
“UGH!” Leorio cried out as he was sent flying from the impact. His bags and phone flew along with him and landed on the ground just the same.
I got hit?! He turned his head from being faceplanted on the ground to see who was the idiot that crashed into an obvious pedestrian in broad daylight.
The person in question got off their bike and parked it against the street pole. She—he?—then turned toward Leorio. They have long jet black hair that flows smoothly in the soft wind—was it even windy? Maybe it’s the main character effect. Their eyes are large and pitch black, staring straight into Leorio’s soul and threatening to drag out his deepest darkest secrets.
Leorio laid still on the ground, stunned and trying not to tremble from fear. He originally planned to scam some money out of them for property damage, but he’s a little preoccupied with being scared shitless. Why are they just staring at him…? Their eyes are terrifying! Now he simply wishes the stranger could just leave and let him pick up his things to run home before Aunt Mito gets mad.
His heart stopped as he felt his leg picked up in the air, then the other one. What… What is happening?
The person remained silent as they dragged Leorio across the ground by his legs. His thoughts went erratic with possibilities.
Where are you dragging me?! Are you trying to dispose of the body?!
“You’re just grazed,” the doctor said. “Nothing serious.”
Leorio exited the hospital room to see the person from before standing waiting for him in the waiting area. He could at least narrow their gender to male from a better look. The boy in front of him has a sharp jaw and pointed eyebrows on pale skin. He wore a simple hoodie with a hand holding… Leorio’s bags of groceries.
“Hey,” Leorio spoke, gaining his attention.
The stranger turned and immediately bowed in a full 90 degrees, making Leorio wave his hands hectically.
“There’s no need to bow so low, it was just a graze.”
The boy straightened up and stared with those blank dark eyes again.
Silence.
Leorio hesitantly lowered the hands he was waving and tried his best not to break eye contact. It was difficult, but he didn’t want to be rude.
“...”
“...”
“.........”
“Um,” he broke the silence, startling the long-haired. “Can I have my things back… Then?”
The teen looked down at his own hands, seeming to remember the things he was carrying, and stepped over to Leorio. He handed over the grocery bags and the cracked phone in outstretched hands.
Leorio grabbed his things and scratched the back of his head. “Thanks.” He grinned in an attempt to diffuse the suffocating tension in the empty waiting room.
“......................”
A bead of sweat formed on Leorio’s forehead. Nonetheless, he waited patiently to see if the person would respond.
A sharp inhale. Then, “S—”
S—? Leorio tilted his head.
“S-s-s-s-s-s-s-s-s-s-s-so-so-so-so-so-so-so-so-sor—”
Leorio now sweats profusely. WHAT IS THIS?! WHAT THE FUCK?!?!
Thankfully, he ceased the ominous chanting. With lips pressed together, the stranger bowed once again then turned on his heels, and stormed out of the door.
Leorio stood frozen and stared at where the teen once was. Heart still racing in absolute fear. He silently vowed, let’s never meet again.
He turned his cell phone back on, revealing 27 missed calls from Aunt Mito. A different kind of fear washed over him as he avoided the phone app and checked the two new messages from Gon instead.
Gon
aunt mito angry now
it ws nice knowng you, rest in pieces
With wide eyes, he looked at the time on the corner of his phone. 6:27 PM?! He frantically dug through the bags to check for damage from the crash. Some of the vegetables were trampled, but nothing too serious. He won’t need to run back to the store and this could provide evidence for his strange encounter in front of the great executor Aunt Mito.
Leorio quickly typed a reply back to Gon then ran straight out the door, almost as fast as the person who was just responsible for his misfortunes.
