Chapter Text
It was officially her one year anniversary with Kathryn Janeway and B’Elanna had plans to celebrate the occasion. They had been through their ups and down in this first year, but she had never felt more complete or happier.
As much as B’Elanna sometimes hated being on the Gamma shift, she had purposefully asked Chakotay to put her on this shift. She needed the element of surprise. Two hours before the Alpha Shift, B’Elanna knew her girlfriend would be getting up around 0600-0630 to get her first cup of coffee before she did anything else. B’Elanna had Kathryn’s routine memorized so she knew she would have the time to execute her first surprise.
Harry was currently on Bridge duty during the Gamma Shift so she had pulled him into helping her. He had followed her into the Captain’s Ready Room, helping her to replicate dozens of roses to put all around the room. He had never been in the Ready Room without Janeway present so he felt a little strange, as if he was breaking some unspoken rule.
“Harry, I can feel you stressing from here,” B’Elanna said. “If you’re so worried, replicate a few more roses for me and go back to the bridge,” she said.
“No, I’m fine,” Harry said. “Besides, I want to help.”
“Okay then stop stressing out, you’re making me stress out,” the Chief Engineer grunted, before looking around with a smirk. There were roses all over Kathryn’s workstation, the chairs, the couch and table. There were rose petals sprinkled about the floor.
“You don’t think you’ve gone overboard?”
“Hmmmm… maybe a little,” B’Elanna shrugged. “But, I want this day to be special. I have a nice night on the holodeck planned for us.”
Harry couldn’t help but smile, “Who knew Klingons were so romantic.”
B’Elanna chuckled, “Get out of here,” she said, pushing him towards the door, having finished with the flowers. Now all she had to do was wait for Kathryn to come and find her. “Leave this single rose on her chair before you leave the bridge.”
“Yes, ma’am.” Harry smiled at B’Elanna. He was happy to help his friend and his Captain.
B’Elanna watched him leave and then went into the Captain’s personal bathroom to freshen up. She checked the time. It was nearly 0800. She walked over to replicate two cups of coffee and brought them over to Kathryn’s desk where she placed the cups and herself on the desktop. She crossed her legs, letting out a deep even breath, suddenly feeling anxious. On insoration, she reached over and pulled one of the roses out of the nearest vase, placing it between her teeth.

Kathryn entered the Bridge and walked down to the command level, Harry was standing in front of her command chair, ready to give her the Gamma shift report.
“Good morning, Captain,” Harry greeted her with a knowing smile. He proceeded to give his report of a largely uneventful shift before passing the Bridge to her command.
As he stepped away, headed for the turbolift, she spotted a single long stem rose laying on her chair. “What-?” she picked up the flower, “Who is this from? Did you leave this here, Harry?” she asked, her gaze following him in retreat.
He shrugged, saying, “It’s not from me,” thus skirting the truth. He turned away and smiled as he stepped into the lift.
In the Ready Room, B’Elanna asked the computer if Kathryn had arrived on the Bridge. Hearing the affirmative, she smirked and removed the rose momentarily, tapping her combadge, “Torres to Janeway. Can you please report to your Ready Room?” She placed the rose back where it had been between her teeth, waiting now.
Kathryn got a quizzical look on her face. Just then Chakotay arrived, and having heard the comm request, waved Janeway toward her Ready Room.
“Best not keep the Lieutenant waiting, Captain,” Chakotay said with a smirk, taking his seat in his command chair. He was in on the surprise.
Feeling suspiciously like she’d been set up, Kathryn hit her combadge, “I’m on my way.”
She stepped over to her Ready Room doors, which opened on her biosignature, and she was hit with the sight and smell of a couple hundred red roses. She gasped as she slowed her step, looking around in amazement, until her eyes fell on her lovely girlfriend.
“Good morning, my love,” B’Elanna said, taking the rose out of her mouth so she could properly talk. “Happy Anniversary.”
“Wha? How?” she was still amazed. “Well, yes, this is a happy anniversary. Oh, darling this is wonderful!” She walked toward B’Elanna with her arms spread wide still in amazement, but ready to wrap around her sweetheart. She did just that, embracing B’Elanna with a warm hug.
B’Elanna smiled at Kathryn’s happy reaction and wrapped her arms around her, pulling her in close. She inhaled her scent and cupped her cheeks, kissing her lips, “I love you so much,” she whispered against her lips. “You better get off duty on time today. I have more planned for us later.”
“Mmm, I love you too, my love,” Kathryn hummed against her lips, “That’s a deal.”
B’Elanna grinned, “Can I convince you to take the day off with me?” She chuckled, moving her hands down Kathryn’s back, wiggling her eyebrows at her.
Kathryn chuckled, “You are incredibly hard to resist,” she said with a smirk. “But, after being on Gamma shift, you’re going to need some sleep, Lieutenant. You’re going to need the energy.”
B’Elanna smiled, picking up on the meaning of Kathryn's words, pressing another loving kiss to her lips with a grin, “Mmm, duly noted, Captain.”
