Chapter Text

"I don't know how to explain this to you!" said Tuor, standing from his chair in the council chamber. "There's no way of getting it through your head that–"

"If you can't explain it, you don't understand it yourself!" said Maeglin, standing from his. You infuriate me, he added through ósanwe, but you look very pretty doing it.

"You'd be able to understand just fine if you had a single thought in your head!" You're beautiful when you're upset. Your eyes just glow.

"Both of you shut up, you're both wrong," said Idril, also standing. And very right about how you look. If I kissed one of you, would you shut up?

"I think we should all just–"

Maeglin glared. "Shut up, Ecthelion, this isn't about you." Of course not, I'd keep arguing after.

"Oh, now you suddenly understand what the discussion's supposed to be about?" said Idril. I don't know what I expected. I might try it anyway.

"I highly doubt it," said Tuor, causing Maeglin to glare at him. We should get married.

"Funny, as I recall you were perfectly neutral about the whole matter until I said something," he replied. Right now?

"It's understandable to want to correct incorrect information. Unfortunately, he's wrong, too," said Idril. Let's meet up at my house, I have the biggest space.

"Point me to the thing I said that was wrong! There isn't one!" said Maeglin. I can't wait!

"Okay, all three of you, stop," said Turgon. "Go somewhere else and calm down."

They glared at one another and stormed off to Idril's house (with a brief detour to Maeglin's, because he insisted on picking a few things up). There they unbound their hair and fell into each other's arms, and joyful was their wedding bed.

The next morning the council met again, but the three who'd left early the day before were absent. After about half an hour, someone dared to break the silence.

"So where are they?" said Glorfindel. "Did they kill each other?"

As if cued by his question, the doors to the chamber opened, revealing Idril, Tuor, and Maeglin, holding hands and looking smug, with new marriage bonds glimmering in their eyes.

Idril slammed a giant binder on the table. "Here's the preliminary plans for our wedding ceremony."
