Tides Break (Rewritten Version)

Chapter Text

Beep.

Beep.

Beep.

“I hate this fucking beeping,” Amity groaned mostly under her breath. “Will the annoyingness ever stop?”

“Maybe,” Luz pursed her lips. “Time would go by a lot faster if you let those thoughts in your head out.”

“I don’t understand why you’re even here,” Amity shrugged. “We both know that you don’t have to be here.”

“I want to be here though,” Luz whispered.

“Why though?” Amity asked. “Why be with someone who isn’t good enough?”

“Amity Blight,” Luz said. Her voice was firm, and she looked straight into her girlfriends eyes. “You are good enough. At least, you’re good enough for me. For the people who really matter. So, whoever told you that you’re not good enough, well? They ain’t shit, I can tell you that much.”

“Language,” Amity scolded. Her response seemed almost automatic.

“You just dropped-”

Amity shook her head, cutting the other girl off. “Langauge.”

“Okay, Little Miss Perfect,” Luz jokingly nudged her girlfriend.

Amity hummed, enjoying the silence for a moment. When she broke it, her voice was soft and fragile. Almost as if the words she spoke could cause her voice harm.

 “We’re still together, right?”

Luz hesitated. “I never planned on breaking up with you Amity,” she said, treading carefully. “And I still don’t. The thought never, ever crossed my mind.”

Amity listened, looking for the but. And then, it came.

“But, if you don’t want to be with me right now, I understand. If us separating, not being a couple will do you more harm than good, then I respect your decision. Again, I don’t want us to break up, but I also want you to do what you think is best.”

“You still want to be with me?” Amity asked. “Even though I tried to kill myself? You want this broken mess of a person?”

“Yeah, I do,” Luz tugged at her hoodie strings.

“Why?” Amity asked.

“Cause I like you!” Luz said a bit loudly. “I know how you are, and inside is an amazing person. You’re hurting right now. That’s okay. Sure, you’re not who you are on a good day, but that is okay because the person you are right now is still you and I like you for you!”

Amity stayed quiet for a moment. And then another.

Beep.

Beep.

Beep.

“Amity? You still with me?” Luz asked after a minute of beeping passed.

“Yeah, sorry-” Amity sniffled. “Just-? Hormones.”

“Hey,” Luz warmly said. “It’s okay. You’re okay.”

“I’m obviously not okay,” Amity laughed.

Luz brought her into a warm hug. And god, it felt so nice. As Luz held onto her sad but loved girl, she whispered something only Amity could hear.

“That’s why we’re getting you therapy.”

Amity leaned into the hug and said something that made Luz hopeful for the first time since she saw Amity bleeding out.

“Therapy sounds nice.”
