Chapter Text
“Does anyone in the audience object to this matrimony?” The priest at the front asked. It was apparently Chris’s decision to have one of those, even though neither of them were religious christians- Peter’s birth family was Jewish (they celebrated Hanukkah more than Christmas), and Chris’s parents were Buddhist, as they had explained to him before the ceremony begun. Tony took it as a win that they were equally as confused.
“Do I get to stand up and state all the problems I have with Chris?” Tony whispered to his husband. Steve rolled his eyes.
“No, Tony, you are not objecting to our son’s wedding.” He reprimanded. “This is his special day and the weird grudge you harbor isn’t going to get in the way of it.” Tony ignored him.
“What’s with the cameras? I thought they weren’t allowing press. That’s kinda tacky.”
“That was your idea, Tony. You said it was good for publicity.”
“Yeah- and I’m right. Doesn’t make it any less tacky.” Tony explained, as if it were common sense, turning his head toward the outskirts of the venue and shooting one of the reporters a glare. When he looked back, they had apparently moved onto the kissing part of the ceremony. “Oh, gross.” The woman across from them on Chris’s side looked at him like he had two heads. “Just stating my opinion.” He mumbled, letting himself fall further down into the seating.
“Tones. Please shut up.”
“Who picked out the music?” Tony whispered to his husband, watching Chris and Peter sway back and forth for their first dance. “Isn’t this from Twilight Breaking Dawn – Part 1?”
“How do you even know that?” Steve replied, narrowing his eyes and taking a sip of his champagne.
“It’s a staple of 2010’s pop-culture- of course I’ve seen it!” His voice had gradually begun to rise, and the guests in his immediate area were all now looking at him. “I’m taking down Stephenie Meyer.” He announced. Steve tried to elbow him gently, but ended up hitting him so hard that Tony keeled over and started gagging. Peter and Chris didn’t stop dancing, but the look on their faces said that they very much regretted inviting the two as Pepper strutted over to help. Before she could arrive, Steve had already dragged him outside.
“Tony. Do you want to go home?” He asked, in his most serious of voices. Tony looked down at his dress shoes. “Because it really seems like you do. I’m not necessarily saying this because I’m mad at you, but I think you need some space to reflect.”
“No. No, I don’t. I want to stay” The music inside the venue changed, and Peter and Chris emerged out the french doors as well. They both appeared less than happy.
“Dad, if you can’t stop being a nuisance, I’m going to have to ask you to leave. I’ve put up with this for six goddamn years, but on my wedding day?” Tony held up a single finger.
“You’re- you’re right. I’m sorry. I can leave if you want me to.” Chris shook his head.
“I know you think that I’m not good enough for your son, but I’ve been trying to prove that I am for those six years, and it feels like you strike me down every time. What can I do? How do I appease you? Because it feels like I can’t, and that we’re going to spend the rest of this father-son-in-law relationship at each other’s throats.” Tony’s lips twitched up in a smile.
“That’s all I wanted. For you to show that you can stand up for yourself and your husband.” Chris’s eyes widened.
“Really? Damn.”
“I still don’t like you.” He pointed out. “Also I want a grandkid named after me.” Chris sighed.
“Well, we’re in love, and I’m not letting you ruin our honeymoon or our marriage. As for the kid- we’ll see.” He told Tony in a clear voice. Tony stilled, then nodded sagely.
“Alright, David.” Peter shot his husband a slight smile. He looked at the space on his wrist where a watch would be if he wore one.
“Let’s see how long this lasts.”
“Should I go back to Chris?” He questioned, tilting his head to the side.
“No! Nope, David is fine. David Stark-Rogers-Giovanni.” David chuckled nervously.
“Holy shit, I thought you were joking when you said you were going to hyphenate again.” Tony wiped figurative sweat off his forehead. “I’m going to go into cardiac arrest trying to pronounce it. Do we get an acronym? David and Peter S.R.G?” Steve frowned.
“I thought you said you were fine taking Rogers?”
“Steve, honey- this discussion is coming twenty-four years too late. Oh shit, remember civil unions? You two have it made. God bless gay America.”
“America is bisexual and hungry.” Steve reminded. “I want one of those finger-food sandwiches.” He brushed past the group and went back inside.
“So, Chris.” He started. “Need any condoms for the honeymoon?”
