Chapter Text
Having mercilessly murdered Harrow, Jake set out to drive as far as possible so he could finally dispose of the body.
As he drove down the lonely road he thought about how easy it had been, he didn't understand why Marc had regretted at the last moment with the decision to exterminate Harrow and Ammit, he had the juicy revenge in his hands, he could taste it and enjoy it but he didn't want it… Why?
Jake had lived most of his life thanks to Marc, he had almost always been present…after all Jake had learned from Marc, the way a mercenary could end someone's life so quickly…even the way to influencing someone without his fists, his strategies and he also knew their weaknesses, but those were not things he wanted to learn...it existed in the back of his mind, maybe it didn't come to light usually but it was still there, observation was key for him .
Khonshu, who was inside the vehicle, addressed him
Make sure he's really dead
Jake didn't answer, he really wasn't what you could say "a man of words"
His gaze was still fixed on the road, the sun was beginning to go down and it was getting dark, the night was about to arrive
In the car the melody of Frank Sinatra "always" was heard
You don't plan to bury him, do you?
Jake ignored the God again, he kept stepping on the accelerator and his hands were still on the wheel, he wasn't necessarily going fast, he didn't want to go fast
Hurry
up Jake closed his eyes for a moment ignoring the fact that he was driving, the road was almost deserted … there was no possible danger, he closed them and only ended up listening to Sinatra's melodious voice
After having a moment of peace he reopened his expressionless eyes…
Why the rush Khonshu?
He said harshly
You have to be more efficient.
A small smile formed on his face
¿Anything else my lord?
Jake's sarcastic tone was not something that surprised Khonshu
Jake knew that Khonshu just wanted to annoy him, he ignored him most of the time, it worked for him, he wanted him to believe that he was manipulating him but certainly Jake just wanted some peace, to do his work, enjoy it and distract yourself for a while
you have shown me what you are capable of doing but…
you do a very dirty job.
Jake laughed at her comment and fell silent.
May I know what's so funny?
Don't you like it when your pretty suit gets bloodstained?
After long minutes of silence between Jake and Khonshu the sun had completely set and Jake was still driving down the empty road, slowing down and looking out the window at the complete desolation of the landscape. He almost completely edged the car and stopped, the lights illuminated a part of the road, he got out of the car and inhaled the cold air of the environment, he had his hands in his pockets and contemplated the flat place that was only grass and land besides being desert
Khonshu appeared next to him
Don't play with fire… you can get burned
Jake sighed
I don't need to be told how to do things
it looks like it is
Jake took a few steps towards khonshu, until he was facing him
I would like to see how you do things you…
He said as he looked at the empty eye sockets of Khonshu
Sure. You can not do it.
Saying this, he laughed a little
Tell me, Khonshu, if you are a God and you are as powerful as you say… why do you need a lapdog to fulfill your will?
Jake was looking directly at Khonshu defiantly
¿Speechless?
A smile was drawn on his face
Take care of your words child...
Or what?
he raised his eyebrows and made eye contact with the God, he didn't blink at all, in his eyes you could see the emptiness in which Jake inhabited.
Tension was in the air
I thought so...
As Jake turned around in a quick movement Khonshu grabbed Jake by the neck
Jake didn't resist, he already knew for a while what Khonshu's reaction to his insolence was going to be, in fact Jake he also enjoyed teasing khonshu constantly.
You know very well the sound your neck would make when it snapped, Jake
Khonshu lifted it up almost to his height
Do you want to find out?
You could see the mocking sneer on his face
Jake was not really afraid of Khonshu, it was like watching a cartoon come off the screen and make it real, it produced terror at first sight a mummified figure almost two meters tall to anyone it would feel terrifying but not to Jake, he just seemed like an absurd chattering creature to him.
If he wanted to do it, he would have done it a long time ago brat
Go ahead... I'll allow you
Khonshu knew what Jake was capable of doing, it wasn't just any puppet he could play with, certainly in part it gave him a strange feeling... that darkness in her interior, the one she hadn't seen in any avatar before.
Enough nonsense Jake
Khonshu said lowering him to the floor and letting him
Jake adjusted his shirt and tie as he spoke
You know? I would say that we are not so different…
what do you mean?
Khonshu asked naively
I mean…the two of us may never feel certain things.
He paused before speaking further.
Our desire for revenge clouds our reason
From his tone, Jake seemed to be serious.
Humans have a more developed... how to say... mmm... sentimental capacity than any species
You're human, you should understand better than me
Ha! Exactly… but I don't understand all that crap.
Jake dissociated for a moment, he didn't know where his mind and himself had gone, but he came back after a few minutes of complete silence
Do you even believe in that sentimental Khonshu garbage?
Jake was looking up at the starry sky
Not really
But you've experienced it, I know…
Although it didn't seem like it Jake was a very perceptive person
Not in the same way as humans
Those words from Khonshu felt like falling into a frozen lake almost completely frozen , Jake's eyes froze for a couple of seconds, his whole mind had been turned upside down in a single moment with something so small, he had no control of those details so he only had to let himself go
Jake whispered
Shit...
He realized of the immense emptiness that he had felt all his life or what he knew for life, even God himself had experienced things that he did not, that he was properly human.
He looked down at the floor a little embarrassed
You really are a fucking liar
Jake laughed
The denial was coming… he couldn't believe the fact that he had missed out on so many things
Now I understand why Marc was so easy to control… it's very easy to fall for your words
I'm not lying Jake
He spoke aggressively but keeping his composure
Yes whatever…now what are you going to tell me? Why didn't you handle Marc as you pleased?
Khonshu did not answer her question. he fell silent creating some discomfort…
Oh, how honest
Jake said sarcastically
We're both selfish as shit.
You should stop hiding in that "revenge and protection of the night travelers" speech when you just want to boost your ego and think you
We deliver justice
Yeah, sure.
He made a dismissive gesture with his hand
I like all this shit
Said Jake as he pointed to the body of harrow in the vehicle
My satisfaction comes first before that of those worms, I will not deny it.
(Referring to Marc and Steven)
I don't think selfishness is something to be proud of
You're just trying to hide all the bullshit
Drop all that moralistic bullshit, you're just embarrassing yourself, liar.
I'm not the same as you Jake
Oh yeah? And why did you choose me?
Jake made a quotation mark gesture with his hands and spoke wryly
“An avatar is a reflection of his God”
I chose Marc
Khonshu seemed honest
Jake knew that it was true, Marc was the chosen one really, he met Marc first, he chose him, Jake was only his second option… maybe the best option, more effective and more efficient, but he was still the second option.
Then why did you keep the deal with me ?
You are important to this job.
Did you say the same to Marc?
Jake snapped
Maybe I still can't get enough of your Khonshu nonsense.
The God responded immediately, almost automatically.
¿Shouldn't I say the same?
To tell you the truth… I always thought you were a delusion in Marc's mind, I thought it was pure shit.
Well, here you see me, isn't it?
I thought the gods were less brainless
Jake said sarcastically
Your insolence knows no bounds
Not really.
Marc was more efficient than you
Khonshu confessed in a tired voice
Please don't make me laugh, stop talking. it just shows what a jerk you can be…
Yes he was.
Again Khonshu tried to weaken Jake with his words
Now do you cry for him? go beg him to be your avatar again, come on… do it
Said Jake with a mocking tone
Maybe that fagot is smarter than me, accepting a deal with a god… ha! What an idiot I was
A silence fell between the two
I thought you really were a god, not this…
He opened his hands pointing at
Khonshu pointed at Jake with his cane, it was under his chin, like a sharp knife almost threatening
Watch your words
Khonshu's tone changed, no longer tired but threatening
I don't need you bastard
Jake spoke aggressively
You don't keep your end of the bargain I don't keep mine.
Jake spread his arms and made a nonchalant face.
I still trying to figure it out
Is your stupidity bigger than your head?
Khonshu gripped his cane tightly, Jake's comments annoyed him but he didn't show it, he pushed his cane away from Jake's face
I can't fix something that's already broken
I don't give a damn, we made a deal
He snapped at Khonshu
can't interfere with the human mind.
That just shows how helpless you are
But it's okay because at any moment I can leave... and you'll have two useless who are useless to you.
His face showed how little he cared about the whole thing, Jake made Khonshu wonder again if he had made the right decision.
I have the least to lose here
You won't get your body
Will you give it to me? or will you give me a sound mind?
The anger on Jake's face was obvious.
It was the birdhead deal.
Jake looked coldly at the God…
Khonshu remained silent
Jake's chest leaned against the window of the vehicle, his arms were on the roof of the car… he buried his head in his hands, maybe that way he would be able to calm down or so he thought.
He felt a warmth that spread through every corner of his body, a great impotence flooded him, he really wanted to be free from Steven, Marc, Khonshu... from everything, he wanted to have his own body and his own life, not that garbage borrowed for a while.
If only… just…
Jake whispered and squeezed his right hand tightly.
He felt a great rush of energy that wanted to come out at all costs, he always tried not to let it come out, the only way everything he repressed came out was during the murders, the violence.
He raised his hand and brought it to the top of the car, hitting the door frame of the vehicle with force. The sound of his knuckles hitting the metal was strong, he repeated the blow three more times... each one with more force than the previous one, Khonshu only watched him carefully and uncertainly, he did not know what was going through his mind, it was all a mystery to him.
Jake took a deep breath and let it out in a big sigh, Khonshu couldn't see his expression since he had his back to him, Jake completely forgot that he was in the company of the God.
Clearly he didn't feel well, a turbulence clouded his mind, anger ate him alive, in his eyes the same emptiness was seen that others observed in him, including Khonshu. That's why he preferred to keep the blood in his hands, the adrenaline running through his system, he avoided the constant feeling of falling through an empty hole with no apparent fall and the infinity of thoughts that slipped in like water flooding the room of his mind.
Khonshu disappeared making him believe that he was alone, but really he was watching him carefully from a place in another plane, Jake regained control of his mind and emotions, he turned and saw that he was totally alone, alone in that cold night in the middle of nowhere, only with his presence keeping him company.
He gave a long weary sigh and told himself…
It's okay.
He got into the car, sat in the driver's seat and slammed the door shut. He delicately removed from his hand the black leather glove that hid his skin, leaving his knuckles in full view... bloody knuckles thanks to the repeated blows he gave against the material of the vehicle... he contemplated for a moment the red and purple hue on his skin, he carefully observed the bright blood that had not yet oxidized by contact with the air, and after a few seconds he carefully put the glove back on, accommodating it in his hand, after which he prepared to start the vehicle again to continue on his way.
