The Disaster Zone
A collection of works about and featuring my Shepard, Beth, a Paragon-with-an-Edge Infiltrator from Earth. Brilliant and hardworking, Beth also grew up starved for love in a neighborhood where it was unclear who she could trust, only to enter into a career where as soon as she started to open up, her friends and lover were brutally killed right in front of her. Left a hardened and habitual loner, Beth is defensive, angry, and cold, and sometimes distant and judgmental. She's also unfailingly honest, honorable, protective, and inspirational. The series within The Disaster Zone chronicles her rise to fame and power, and her journey to the acceptance of others. Eventually Shepard/Garrus.

Summary
"There's a moment in the careers of a lot of soldiers where they sort of wake up. Become more than they ever thought they could be. I used to wonder what your moment would be. Now I wonder why I ever wanted to see the fight that would wake you up."
Since Akuze, Beth Shepard has been running herself ragged trying to outrun the pain. Committed to excellence for the sake of her mentor, with no real stakes in the Alliance anymore, at Eden Prime she receives more of a reason to fight than she's ever encountered in her life. But fighting Saren and preventing the return of the Reapers demands she set aside the rigid boundaries she's set to keep herself safe from grief and begin to rely upon others. After all, she can't do everything on her own.
A collection of one-shots set at various times during ME1, focusing on Beth Shepard's relationships with the members of her crew.

Summary
Nihlus forced down another bite and pointed his spork at her. “I’m here because I want to see how you do your job, and more importantly, why.”
“Why,” Shepard repeated, nonplussed.
“Why,” Nihlus agreed. “I can’t know what kind of Spectre you’ll be unless I know why you make the decisions you make. What do you fight for, Commander Shepard?”
In the last hour before touchdown on Eden Prime, Commander Shepard has lunch with Nihlus Kryik. The two of them talk about Nihlus recommending Shepard to the Spectres and what he’ll be looking for over the course of their missions together.Series

Summary
The truth was that Shepard liked focusing on her career, and it helped that Anderson doing so much for her gave her more motivation than just working until the demons in her head were too exhausted to roar. Running ragged was better than running scared. But Anderson was right too. She’d pulled off the miracles so far, but she was already on meds to help her stomach and more to help her sleep at night. She hadn’t hit her limit yet, so she couldn’t exactly say what it was, but Shepard was pretty sure it was coming up quick.
By 2180, Lieutenant Shepard’s a new N7 and the best XO in the Alliance Fleet. She’s also still fighting PTSD, borderline drug dependent, and one bad day away from a burnout. One day, Captain Anderson orders her to leave the ship during shore leave and not to come back until she’s taken an actual break.
