Summary
“Put your hand down.” Merlin said, “Let me see.”
Hisirdoux shook his head, drawing a sigh from the master wizard.
“Hisirdoux.” he said as if he was ordering the boy around, as if this was his workshop in the castle and not some cell in who-knew-where, “Making sure not to look during the… process was doable, but I must see what they’ve done.”
The moppet shook his head again, a motion so little it could’ve been mistaken for a tremble.
“Please,” Merlin asked, so tired, so drained, “Don’t make me pull your hand away.”
Reluctantly, Hisirdoux put his hand down.
That’s when he finally saw them.
If it weren’t for the little composure Merlin still had… the old wizard didn’t know how he would’ve reacted.

Summary
“Hisirdoux, say something!”
The boy looked up at Merlin with wide, glistening eyes and a trembling lower lip.
He shook his head.
His lips contorted into a grimace, and he mouthed the words…
“I can’t.”
--
Or, Merlin rescues Douxie from some lowlife gang of bandits, and he's devastated by what's already happened to his apprentice before he found him - by what he was too late to prevent happening to his son. But there's more to what happened than simply what lay before him. -

Summary
Out all alone on what was meant to be a simple errand, collecting herbs for Merlin, Douxie is downed when some pickpocket throws a fistful of black powder in his face - a magic suppressant and poison to wizards, he comes to find out the hard way. Unable to move or use his magic, as attempts to do both cause nothing but agony, the moppet has no choice but to rely on the slim hope of someone finding him before the poison overtakes him.

Summary
So somebody said "Darklands AU where Hisirdoux is taken to the Darklands at the Battle of Killahead Bridge" and my brain exploded
---
Merlin’s pale eyes flicked up, and it hit Jim just how…old Merlin looked. His eyes were tired, and his shoulders were hunched, as if he, too, carried the world upon his shoulders and had done so for a very long time.
The master wizard confessed, “I fought with a Trollhunter before, at the Battle of Killahead Bridge. Deya, was her name. I’ve heard the fool with six eyes refer to her as ‘Deya the Deliverer.’ I suppose she was a deliverer, for some. But she was not enough for me.”
Merlin trailed off, and his gaze fogged over again, as if his mind was somewhere else. “…I was not enough, that day.”

Summary
Like most teachers, Strickler has a favourite student. Unlike most teachers, his relationship with that student is… complex.
A series of drabbles exploring their relationship throughout the show (and Strickler’s motivations more generally), inspired by the question I’ve seen floating around: “So why is Jim Strickler’s fave?”
