The gods break promises all the time. Percy knows this. He himself is the result of one such broken oath.
The gods are cruel, and cowardly, and petty. Yes. Percy knows this well.
Percy could swear them to anything and what guarantee would he have that they would keep their promise? Even something as seemingly simple as freeing Calypso he could not trust them to do. No. He would not have them swear an oath. He would become one of them, accept Zeus’s offer, and he would force change from the inside. He would do it. He has to.
He promised Luke he would.
This, Percy thinks, he will swear to himself on the River Styx. He will become a god and he will force the change needed.
Even if it means leaving behind the one he loves.

“Senior Wei,” he slurs, listing into Wei Wuxian’s shoulder, “you smell like flowers.”
“I do,” Wei Wuxian agrees. He must look almost as much of a mess as they do. His outer robe is slipping off his shoulder. His hastily-tied hair is about to fall out of its ribbon. Thankfully, if he was born with a sense of shame, it was not resurrected with him. “Let’s get you some tea, hm? And then tomorrow we can have a nice, long talk about our limits?”
“Haha.” Sizhui, managing to balance himself upright, beams at Wei Wuxian. “Xian-gege?”
Wei Wuxian swallows hard. It’s that or burst into loud, messy sobs. “What is it?” he says softly.
Sizhui beams and warbles out, “Xian-gege, I have no bones.” And then he pitches to the floor, happily taking Wei Wuxian with him.
It’s how Lan Wangji finds them about five minutes later.
“Lan Zhan,” Wei Wuxian chokes out.
Lan Wangji regards them for a moment, his eyes crinkling. “Mm?”
“I think our son is on my windpipe,” he says. “Could you get him off?”
He does.

Summary
Despite what Jiang Wanyin and his Sect had done, despite everything, baba never once cursed them as they did the Yiling Patriarch's name. Mourn as baba did for Sizhui's family, for the family that had become baba's own in all but name, never once did he look upon the cultivation world in vengeance. Instead, every breath, every shred of life in baba's failing body had been dedicated to keeping Sizhui safe, fed and loved, as if the slightest speck of grudge towards the world would have tainted his own boundless love towards Sizhui.
But Sizhui is alone in the world now, and he is not his baba - No one else is like baba, and Sizhui supposes that was what had sealed his father's fate, in a world where one is demanded to serve mere ideas of righteousness and honor rather than the people.
And so upon seeing the purple robes amidst the crowd, Wei Sizhui decides that perhaps it would not hurt to start his path of vengeance a little closer to home.

amazing. so cool. sizhui's revenge plan was unbelievable. ahhhh i had tears in my eyes the entire time as i read this on the bus to my school.
imagine reading a fic next to your friend and trying to hide the tears in your eyes and let them think ah, she is ok then.a legend, a masterpiece. sizhui getting revenge is everything to me. A MUST READ NO MATTER HOW MUCH TIME HAS PASSED.

i remember sobbing my eyeballs out when reading this au on tumblr and the tears only seem to have increased tremendously while reading this.
I love literally everything about this fic. its just amazing and beautiful and i really cant stop sobbing at the thought of it.
