“I…” Stede’s lip wobbles theatrically. “I could use a bit of support.” He sniffles, forced and dry; he’s not even close to crying.
It’s a bad idea. It was a bad idea the moment Izzy first invited Stede closer, toward him, for a stiff hug that led to Stede sinking along Izzy’s body until he was mouthing at the laces of Izzy’s leathers. It’s a bad idea now, as Stede teeters closer to him.
But the helplessness in Stede’s voice has Izzy relenting again, gritting his teeth, and asking, “What would help, captain?”
After every raid, Stede needs something to calm him down, and though Izzy's chances of denying him are low, that fucking voice brings them down to zero.
