Jeffrey sits atop a boulder in the beachgrass and feels the warm evening breeze tickle the back of his neck and caress his face. He closes his eyes and breathes deep, filling his lungs with fresh salty air, expelling all of the days’ worries out with the exhale. He’s just about to hoist himself up to turn back to his cottage for the night when he sees it---
There’s a dark shape in the water. Jeffrey stills and watches the waves bring it closer. It looks almost like a boat, he thinks, but it’s hard to tell in the low light. There’s something lumpy in the middle, and he can’t make out any oars.
