His eyes are still open. Barely. Viktor watches him blink like it takes all the effort in the world once, twice, before Viktor drops the scalpel between them and takes Jayce’s face between his bloodied palms.
“Defender,” he says, soft in the way that always makes Jayce smile.
And Jayce does smile.
OR. the zenith games are built in blood.

“You can just say you were worried, V.”
Viktor stiffens minutely, horrified.
“I wasn’t,” he says, like a liar.
“Yeah?” Jayce whispers, but his voice is laden with mirth.
“Yes, Jayce,” Viktor’s fingers pull cold lines across the bruising of Jayce’s skin, “you could die on that field and I would cry for the great loss of my equipment forged to your nerves. Nothing more.”
OR. jayce will never lose so long as viktor loves him.

“Why don’t you have any parents?”
Jayce swivels in his chair to face Amaranthine. His mouth has formed the sort of scowl that could never make it to billboards, the deep-set ‘C’ frown of horror that would form wrinkles if he wasn’t trained into a constant smile between the cringing.
“You can’t just ask that,” he tells her.
She counters quickly, skipping into the lab to plant her feet on the bottom wrung of his seat and whirl them both into a spin, “I just did and no one stopped me, so… guess I can!”
