Summary
Fighting Jabber was like fighting the parts of himself he banished to the dark a long time ago. He was always envious of his free-spirited, honest nature. That's partly why he hated him so much. He was jealous. Jealous that he was able to accept himself for what he was, and freely present it to the world. Jealous of his natural talent. Jealous of his strength. He worked himself to the bone, training relentlessly just to have a shot at winning a single fight.
"You never could just let me win, could ya?" Zanka finishes his thought out loud. A dry wheeze is his response.
or,
Zanka doesn't lose the fight, but he loses everything else.

“Do you really think she understands you like I do?”
Kazutoshi freezes. The words themself sound scary, sound intimidating, like Ken is… threatening him, but the tone is what drives Kazutoshi up the wall.
He sounds so gentle. He sounds so somber, so loving, so full of care and sincerity that Kazutoshi feels his heart stutter in his chest. Kazutoshi feels his limbs go weak, and that doesn’t escape Ken’s careful eye.
He can’t do this.
(In which Kamimura Kazutoshi survives the third trial, and moves onto the fourth and the fifth. His relationship with Ken begins to grow and change, and so does Kazutoshi. That doesn't necessarily mean for the better).

Summary
It was always going to end like this. There was no other way it could end. Zanka knew that from the beginning, they both did.
Was it hubris to think he could stop fate? Was it love to want to try anyways?
