Summary
The silence in the room is a sudden, absolute thing. When Arthur finally looks at him, his blue eyes are tired, disbelieving, and just a little bit amused. “Did you just dare me to quit my job and say fuck you to my father, Merlin?”
Putting on his best, I’m an idiot, what can you do face, Merlin shrugs. “That sums it up quite nicely, yes.”
Five increasingly absurd dares, and one time they finally speak the truth. Or: emotionally repressed idiots will find overly convoluted ways to be earnest with each other; just give them some time to figure it out.
