She knew, watching him contemplate how to respond, that he could see right through her. That he’d identified a crucial piece of information she kept so carefully hidden. It was dangerous. Unacceptable. And yet, likely too late to backtrack. She wondered if Elain had spoken to him.
“I think we got off on the wrong foot,” he said. “If we’re going to be in each other’s company, I think we should start over.”
