Xander gets magically frozen by Willow until they can find a way to save his life, which doesn't happen until the 26th century, long after everyone and everything Xander knows is gone, leaving a formerly one-eyed carpenter displaced in time and travelling the 'verse with the pre-BDM crew of Serenity.
Chapters 1-54 of this UNFINISHED but very re-readable work are also posted on Twisting the Hellmouth, with chapter 55 (the latest so far, posted in 2016) only posted on LJ.
"Carving Out a Future" won 1st place for "Best Unfinished Crossover (Television)" in the 2007 Crossing Over Awards on Twisting the Hellmouth (and 2nd place in 2006 in the same category).

Starts during the Firefly episode 'Our Mrs. Reynolds' with a Rayne twist, and then continues as a crossover with BtVS in chapter 2, with the introduction of Willow Rosenburg (who may be just what some people needed!). I particularly enjoyed Spike's 'guest appearance' in a much later chapter, as well. :)
Again, one of my favorite 'Rayne' authors to re-read and this is probably my favorite among her 'Firefly' crossover stories, in spite of frequent proof-reading problems. "Our Mrs. Cobb" is also posted in its entirety on FFN and on on sevangel's LiveJournal (scroll down to "Our Mrs. Cobb" for individual chapter links).
This story won 1st place for "Best Firefly Crossover" in the 2006 Crossing Over Awards on Twisting the Hellmouth.
Additionally, sevangel won 1st place in the category "Best Crossover Author" in the 2007 COA and was tied for 1st place in the category "Most Nominations (author)" in the 2007 COA.
