Cordelia needed to talk to Simon. He'd had that expression of his for some weeks, worried and hesitant, that said he had something to tell her, something he wasn't sure he should. She had a few questions of her own first, a few fears, and those aside she hadn't expected this, of all things. Not from Simon. Not from anyone.
Set just after the end of Barrayar, a few months after Miles' birth, and follows from Imperfect Equilibrium. Simon tells Cordelia about his abilities. Not entirely voluntarily.

Summary
Insanity was not the only side effect of the memory chip, though Simon doesn't entirely discount that that's what this is. He keeps it secret, either way. Empathy or insanity, neither are weaknesses he's sure he can afford. It helps keep him alive, either way, and perhaps at some point he'll last long enough for it not to be a weakness at all.
Vaguely Shards of Honor era AU where the installation of the chip gives Simon minor psychic abilities. More than his usual, I mean.
