    The holoscreen soundlessly rumbles through a news clip in the background, the Nautolan host drawing one of her tendrils forward to demonstrate the fresh tattoo she had gotten before Quinlan swipes his hand in the air and the channel changes.

    “I was watching that,” Cody says, his head reclined to rest against the back of the sofa, his eyes barely open, a gleam of his iris reflecting the multi-coloured lights of the commercial. He’s comfortably rumpled, his shirt an old washed-comfortable one of Quinlan’s with a faded image of a set of archival forms and his trousers rolled up at the cuffs. There’s several inches of pleasantly soft belly on display, broken up only by a strip of dark hair and a collection of scars peeking over the curve of his hip.
