Summary
Henry considers him; thumbs the edge of the paper label on his beer bottle.
There’s a moment that feels like a question. Alex isn’t sure what he’s being asked. He shifts on his feet.
“I mean, not if that’s – if you’re saving it, or.”
“No, it’s alright. It’s sweet you asked,” Henry says. He leans further back against the chair, crosses one ankle over another. “Well, I can’t play you the record; the reel-to-reel’s in LA. But I could play you the songs? My rig’s back at the hotel. If you wanted to come over.” Henry drains his bottle and sets it on a windowsill. “I rather think I’m done with this clambake, aren’t you?”
He steps towards Alex, into his space in a way that feels deliberate.
“One condition, though,” he says. “You have to play for me, too.”

Summary
“Henry fucking Fox, I thought you were smart. I’m saying we can be friends with benefits, obviously.”
Henry lets out a wheezing noise and then looks past Alex’s shoulder, his eyes reflecting the bright lights. He pauses for a few more seconds, which feel like a lifetime to Alex, before he perceptibly juts his chin out and then shrugs casually.
“As I said earlier, you know what, I think it's a bad idea. But I think you're right.”
Alex grins. “I have the best ideas.”
“Yeah, convenient. And you don’t like me, so no complications at all.”
Alex frowns at that, feeling that there’s something wrong with that statement, but before he can question it in his head, Henry resumes walking.
“My roommate is away for the weekend, actually,” Henry calls out.
Or, Alex and Henry are regulars at the same coffee shop. They have designated tables and a convenient friendship, with benefits... until it becomes totally complicated. -
