Summary
"Soldat," Zemo says again, voice gently commanding. Bucky hates that he automatically looks up at Zemo again. "It is alright. You can let go. I will take care of you—but at your word I will also leave at any time."
The words seem almost laughable at first. Bucky shouldn't trust this man, he was in prison for a reason, he took advantage of him, Bucky shouldn't be this easy to affect anymore, he—
But oh he wants, he wants so terribly that he's almost shaking with it, so wound up and tense. He just wants to sink into the warmth of submitting, of feeling like he's floating and only needs to focus on being good. And this time it's different. This time he truly wants to do it, and can decide for himself whether to submit. And that prospect feels good.
(Or, in which Zemo gives Bucky what he's been needing.)

Summary
Bucky knows what it means to have had “an aptitude for sniping” noted down in his file, back in the war. He was conflicted enough doing that kind of work when Steve needed it. Being dragged back into it now, by his government, is the last thing he wants. Especially with Zemo there to witness it, and worse, to understand it.

Summary
While dismantling yet another derelict HYDRA base, Bucky gets accidentally dosed with an old and devious experimental drug of HYDRA's own making. He thinks he can handle the effects by himself - he's a super soldier, after all - but, he didn't anticipate HYDRA being this devious nor Zemo being that keen on offering his assistance.

Summary
The point of drills and boot camps and military training was to turn combat into something reflexive and unthinking. Even Sam had said that any soldier felt that way in the middle of a fight, if the training had taken. That it was normal. Bucky struggles to draw the line between being a soldier and having been the Winter Soldier, even after his deprogramming.
Meanwhile, the line between being a super-soldier and owning a super-soldier is too blurry for what remains of Zemo’s principles. He knows how easily he could justify an atrocity to himself when James is the one offering.

Summary
The former Winter Soldier could never have imagined this was how his life would go.
One day, a defeated mercenary. A slave to be sold off to any manner of masters at the whim of his captors. The next, making an ill-advised deal with a great and terrible dragon seemingly interested in adding the former Winter Soldier to its hoard.
