The last time Lottie had seen Natalie, they were making a blood oath to never talk about The Wilderness and everything they’d done in It again. Three years had passed since then, and she hadn’t let herself dwell much on Natalie or any of the other Yellowjackets or Travis beyond wishing them peace. She certainly hadn’t expected to see Natalie again in some college bar.
But here they were.
Natalie looked good, for what it was worth. Her hair was longer now. Her eyes wilder. The rest of her face was the same as it had ever been, only older. More thinned out. Lottie couldn’t help but want—
“Charlotte? Are you good?” Janet asked.
Against her will, Lottie’s mouth took the shape of something soft and fond. “I’m fine… I just went to high school with the bartender. That’s all,” she said.

Summary
Every small party before this had been a test, a rehearsal for the grand finale. And every time Natalie showed up, every time their eyes met across the room, every time Lottie caught a flicker of something in her expression, curiosity, interest, something deeper, her determination solidified. It wasn’t enough to just wish for Natalie to notice her anymore. Lottie needed her to see.

Of course, Natalie had always thought Lottie was pretty. More on an intellectual level. Shit, it was just a fact. But the way her dark curls framed her jaw and neck… Well, the sight had suddenly grown interesting. Interesting and previously unnoticed. And now, like the memory of their encounter in the washroom, it was stirring something in Natalie she hadn’t realized was there.
