Summary
Spencer Reid had moved on from that life. That life of violence, secrets, and cruelty.
It turns out, that life had not moved on from Spencer Reid.
When the BAU learn the truths about their youngest member, they aren't sure they ever knew the man who's past is far darker than that of an innocent boy genius.

Summary
Having a machine gun pointed at his face really wasn’t what he’d had on his case bingo today.
Spencer had a choice here – he could keep playing this funny game where he acted like a defenseless dumbass (who was coincidentally a total genius) in front of a group of incredibly experienced profilers. He could let his lip wobble and his hands tremble and Hotch take lead with no real knowledge of how experienced the man was with hostage situations. He could put his fate into his unit chief's hands.
Or he could kill Philipp Dowd with a single headshot and prevent this whole thing from going wrong. He just needed to get the guy's attention far enough away from Hotch that he could take the gun out of his ankle holster and take his shot. That was all he had to do; a simple plan that took him about five seconds to construct, path to resolution.
He was never one to put his fate in other people's hands. His CIA career proved that well enough.
Spencer started talking before Hotch could.

Derek Morgan wasn't sure he trusted Gideon's judgement. After all, who allows a 23 year old who can't even pass the academy's physical exam to become a field agent? Luckily for him, Reid is about to prove just how competent (and badass) he can be.
Trigger warnings: blood, violence, mentions of school shootings, death, lack of respect towards people suffering from mental illness, and other things you would normally find in a Criminal Minds episode.

So what if Garcia made a presentation about his past. It's not like there could be any photos of him with colored hair and piercings, or smoking as a teen, or kissing boys, or- you now what let's put an end to this.

Summary
Spencer Reid never made it into the BAU. Now, he spends his time counting cards in Las Vegas, careful not to attract attention to himself. But when a series of casino patrons go missing, he can’t help but feel something is amiss. When the local police fail to take him seriously, he flies directly to Quantico, where he is left to plead his case to Unit Chief, Aaron Hotchner. However, with unrelenting migraines and an increasing dependence on his prescription medication, things might not be as easy as they seem.
