The desire to protect those closest to him. This was what drove Natsu to join Gildarts on his Century Quest to the war torn land of the Scarlione Empire. Harsh training and a will to survive simply weren't enough to prepare him for the horrors awaiting him in the war torn land, or the Century Quest that led them there. "Unce Buck has ouch.", Jee says in a loud voice, dropping her fork to point at his injured arm.
Buck would have loved to sink into the ground at that moment. It was bad enough that he was exposing his scars in front of the whole Buckley-Han household, but that Jee was the first to notice gave him the rest.
He didn't want Jee to see him like this, he didn't want anyone to see him like this.
Or: Buck needs a little bit more conformation to be alive, so he hurts himself, unfortunately is Jee the one to notice it first.
