But Jay can't afford to be picky.

"What if—" Jake's voice cracked. "—What if I, like, catch feelings for you? or something?"
Jay slowly turned and raised an eyebrow at him. Wow, he completed a 270 degree turn just to raise his right eyebrow. At Jake. Wow. "You're not worried about me catching feelings for you?"
"Why would I be?"
Jay huffed. His agitated fingers lacerated a corner of the wrapping paper.
"So what happens?" Jake pushed. "If someone catches feelings?"
"Then I guess we'll just be having a golden gay time, won't we, Jaeyun," Jay said crabbishly.

Jay mentioned an arcade, so Jake wanted to go. What Jay didn't mention when he first brought up that he'd been Doing Things including visiting this monk arcade was that only couples were allowed inside. What Jake didn't mention was that he wanted to be one of those Things Jay had been Doing.

Summary
Jay genuinely felt like a mother, especially as he browsed the showrooms with his angsty teenage son Jake trailing behind him. A mentally healthy Jake would have been actively participating in the shopping, excitedly pointing out cool items with his metaphorical tail wagging and ears perked up. This Jake, however, scowled and dragged his feet like he would rather be at home playing Fortnite with his friends on Discord.
Jay brings a brooding, newly-broken-up-with Jake with him to IKEA.

“You surf?” the boy asks, also standing up, walking towards Jay.
“Yes,” Jay responds curtly as he picks up his board.
“Wait!” Jay turns around slowly, slightly peeved, but grows even more irritated as he acknowledges once again just how cute this guy is. Jay can’t believe someone so beautiful can be so exasperating. “Make sure you check in the next few weeks. They’ll probably hatch soon.”
Despite his kindness, and cuteness, Jay can’t help but feel like this boy is trouble. Jay didn’t do much research on the town before traveling here — has no idea how big or small it really is — but based on the twelve hours he’s been here, Jay has an inkling that everyone seems to know each other. And with that, Jay also has an inkling that he’s going to definitely see this boy again.
When elite surfer Jay Park is invited to train with a world-famous Olympian, he's determined to rebuild his confidence and skill, especially after coming off a big loss. He leaves everything he once knew in Malibu to train on the Atlantic coast and find his spark again — no excuses, no distractions.

Summary
Jake loved drawing. It calmed him, helped him ease down. His pen always brushed easily along the white, thin paper. It was something he could look forward to, have a purpose in his life other than trying to appease his father.
Nonetheless, once it was Jay he saw on the paper, it got to him.
Jake stopped drawing. He played sports, went to parties, and never touched a sketchbook again. Jay had always been the same, a new phase here and there, but at the end of the day, he stuck to what he knew. That was the difference between them. Jake listened to everyone around him, gave in to advice that people gave him that, realistically, didn’t matter at all, and he knew it didn’t matter, but not wanting to admit certain things about himself won the battle.
So college arriving at his doorstep wasn’t good for him. Because with adulthood, he didn’t have the excuse of being a stupid teenager who made decisions he knew were secretly not the best for him, decisions that would cause him to lose who he was.
The only good thing about it was that he had Jay through it all.
