Alex pauses, then says, “Truth.”

Bea whines. “Could we not?”
“Too late,” Pez points out, tilting his head at Alex. “Answer the question.”
“It was two questions,” Alex argues, his knee bouncing. “That’s against the rules.”
“Answer the second one then.”
Henry looks over at June, who seems suddenly invested in their game. She meets his gaze with a twisted smile and soft eyes, like she knows.
“I don't know if it's fair to—”
Nora interrupts him. “Answer, Alex. That's the game.”

“It’s not about punishment.” Alex just nods; Henry had been very clear on the form that he wasn’t looking to be dominated or put in his place, so that won’t be new information. “And it’s not the pain as such.” He runs his fingers along the edge of the mug. “I mean, don’t get me wrong, I like to feel it, but I’m not looking for pain for the sake of pain. It’s more about… control, I think.”
There’s a long silence. “Taking it?” Alex prompts finally. “Or giving it up?”
“Does it sound ridiculous if I say both?”

“That’s how Alvie kisses Harry,” Alex says, squeezing Henry’s wrist. Henry’s eyes dart down to the slight red mark on Alex’s cheek. He hit Alex the last time they were together. Henry didn’t get to watch the bruise form then with Alex between his legs. “That’s why Harry wanders, but he always comes back.”
Henry draws in a shaky breath. “Alvie’s a lucky man.”
Alex’s eyes drop to Henry’s neck, where the diamond of his pendant hangs amid the forming marks Alex left behind. “Sure is."

“How’s your head? It was a nasty hit,” blonde, tall, and gorgeous continues hastily. Alex’s eyes had adjusted to the light enough to see the pink coloring the highs of this walking Vogue Ad campaign’s cheeks. He felt himself grin wickedly, seeing another opportunity to flirt.
“Pretty fucking stellar last I heard, want a demonstration?”
He is so fascinated by the way Prince Charming’s eyebrows furrow then shoot up to his hairline as he finally understands what Alex is implying, the desire to bite his now truly red cheeks growing exponentially.
“Oh, god, the concussion must be worse than the doctor said it’d be,” he muttered to himself, taking a tiny step back from Alex.

Alex has been hopelessly in love with Henry for the better part of 15 years, but they’re best friends so obviously he can’t say anything. Enter temporary amnesia, giving Alex the confidence to confess his feelings and flirt like he’s got nothing to lose—until he realizes that Henry is totally not into him (wrong) and he’s probably just ruined the only friendship he has.
