Summary
Harry Potter has spent ten years believing he has no family beyond the Dursleys. Then, one morning, just before the Christmas holidays, he learns that he has an older sister. Her name is Helen, and she was born when their mother was still very young.
Harry even gets the chance to escape the Dursleys for a while and spend the holidays with his sister's adoptive family. Except... this family has its own problems, and Harry quickly learns another lesson: just because someone is loved doesn't mean they can't be treated very badly.
But will finding out who Helen's father is really solve everything? And can Severus Snape, who comes from a troubled family himself, move beyond his bitterness and resentment and grow up enough to be a father in more than just the biological sense?

Summary
Harry is captured by Voldemort. Severus Snape tries to save him—and ends up trapped with him instead. They find themselves imprisoned and tortured side by side, forced into a fragile, unwanted partnership where survival means relying on the one person neither of them trusts. Days of shared captivity and torture leave no room for distance. Pain strips away pretense. What remains—surprises them both.
A character-driven Snape–Harry mentor/guardian story. Pre-OotP AU (no Horcruxes, canon-divergent backgrounds). No slash.
First part of the Happy Days in Hell trilogy.Originally published in 2003 on FFN, translated into 6 languages. A piece of HP fandom history - a kind of dinosaur here. :-D
