    When a small plane disappeared over the mountains along the Canadian-American border, it barely made the local news. Search and Rescue teams from America joined with the RCMP, but neither country held out much hope of anything being found. When the search was quietly called off, not even the local news commented.

    The pilot had no family and there was some question as to the number - or existence - of passengers. At least that was the reason the head of the American S&R gave to the deadly looking blond, & his 5 hard faced men, who demanded topographical maps of the area. Which he handed over without question. As he later told his wife; if those 6 men were crazy enough to ride into the high country looking, let them.

    The RCMP Captain only had to face one man, a subordinate at that. Kindly but firmly he told the blank faced Sergeant that the search had been called off. He politely ignored the momentary shattered look in the Sergeant's eyes at the news. When the Sergeant asked for leave it was given, along with the supplies he requested. Plus, the captain told his wife, when it came to that particular Sergeant it would have done no good to refuse anyway.
