Summary
As if Ren could walk through Shibuya without thinking about the not-so coincidental meetings at the train platform each morning, or stop himself from looking over at the entrance of Penguin Sniper each time he was in Kichijoji, searching for a figure that would no longer be there. That melancholy lingers in every jazz record that Ren played on his phone, in every cup of coffee that he brewed for an empty, unfulfilled audience.
Tokyo is a city marked by the ghost of Akechi Goro on every corner, and it was both Ren’s happiness and regret to bear.
(or: boy with cat runs around Tokyo on a treasure hunt because a mystery number told him to do so)

Summary
The rain's still coming down hard, and the icy chill hasn't dissipated either. He'd blame it on the lack of proper heating in a building that should've been renovated long ago, but something about the chill feels... odd. It's disconcerting. It's—
Familiar, he thinks. Except—this time, the chill crawls up his spine and settles just under his skin. This time, the chill blankets the entire room, cloaking it with a biting frost that makes all the hairs on the back of his neck stand up, and gooseflesh speckle over his arms.
Ren glances around the library, trying to suppress a shiver.

Following the collapse of Maruki's reality, Ren finds himself haunted by a ghostly presence that seems to manifest more as a disembodied chill than anything else—at first, anyway. As the sightings increase, it becomes more and more difficult for Ren to ignore, and eventually, he's forced to consider what he thought to be impossible: that Akechi might be alive.

—Akira tips his head back and laughs. The moment lasts only seconds, yet it snags every facet of Goro’s attention. Goro nearly forgets to chew his food, let alone take a breath in, at the relaxed line of Akira’s shoulders as he leans back into Goro’s space. This close to Akira, Goro takes in the tired creases under his eyes and natural upward curve of his mouth, wriggling as if to suppress another laugh.
One bark of laughter from Akira feels equivalent to a whole school’s affection in a day. Since Akira stumbled into Goro’s life, Goro hasn’t known peace. Never in a millennia did he expect someone to grasp his attention with a flick of a wrist—not only interacting without ulterior motives, but challenging him with battles of wits and snark unlike anyone else at the academy.

With as high of a status Goro holds due to his vampiric charm, Goro could drink from any Shujin student he desires with no consequence. Yet, here he is, holding back from biting the one person who views him as an equal and, most bafflingly, a friend: Akira Kurusu. -
