Harley’s heart stutters as the word filters through his ears. No no this can not be happening to him right now! Dad curses all the time! Harley cannot have this pinned on his record.
Harley puts on his best ‘I’m your older brother and you must listen to me voice’, “Peter you can never ever say that word again. Especially in front of Mom and Dad.”
Peter doesn’t meet his eyes so Harley makes the daring decision to switch methods, “It could be our secret.”
Peter’s eyes dart to Harley’s the moment the word ‘secret’ leaves his lips. Harley deals the final blow by lifting his right hand and extending his pinky in front of his brother’s face, “Pinky promise, bug?”
Peter’s apprehension melts away as a giddiness overtakes him. He wraps his smaller pinky around Harley’s and they both shake them together, sealing the deal.
