Oh wow! Sorry I took so long to reply to this - I've been overseas on holiday and frantically busy, and I wanted to reply properly because I really appreciate the feedback (and the rec as well!). Also, I really love your work too and totally haven't commented on it as much as I should have.
I'm glad the twists worked for you - I love creating fics with "wait, what?" moments, even though I know that some people find it frustrating that I'm not giving all the information from the outset.
I'm also glad the ending worked. I knew from the start that he was going to go back but I also didn't want to make the whole thing a total downer; I wanted people to see that something good had come from the whole nightmare. Also, it gives some grounds for a sequel if I ever get around to doing one - I do have an idea but I need to find the time!
