In the aftermath of the assault, Alfred feels like an absolute failure as a nation and a person. It's not made easier with the fact that his attackers refuse to believe they did anything wrong and are treating him and Matthew like they're the ones with a problem. Stripped of his very dignity and with no will to keep going on, he commits suicide.

His brother is now left with his grief and guilt, feeling like he could've done more to prevent the attack. His attackers, shunned by their friends and disowned by family, have to deal with the consequences and fallout of their actions. And a new personification of the USA arises, with her predecessor's memories and a struggle to find her own identity in a world that might not be fully accepting of her.
