Summary
Shouta had always figured witches would all have dark hair and hunch over bubbling cauldrons, like the Halloween stories like to tell.
It's... Somewhat of a surprise that this witch has such bright blonde hair, like the sun, and seems to bumble through spell casting as if he were trying to figure it all out on his own.
The first time that he'd ever actually interacted with him, though, was when a spell backfired near horrifically and he had to save the young man's life.

"Why, Hizashi?" Nemuri asks, hiding her amusement behind a hand. With how Hizashi is practically sobbing over the splintered pieces of his broom, she doesn't think it's appropriate to laugh. "Why don't you carry your keys with you like a normal person?"
"Because I'm a witch!" He practically wails. "I only need my keys when I go to check my mail! I haven't needed them for my front door since I moved in, and now they're up there next to my bed and I dunno how to unlock my door and I'm going to be homeless now – "
"Oh, baby boy." Nemuri hides her laughter by hugging the sobbing blonde. "It's okay. We can contact your landlord. Or pick the lock – Shouta's pretty good at that, did you know?"
"Th-that's against the law," Hizashi mutters into her shoulder. "... Isn't it?"
"Breaking into your own home? No, it's not."
"... I do like Shouta more than my landlord..."

"Since when have you cared about safe?" Hizashi scoffs, grinning. "You jump off of my balcony instead of using the front door sometimes. Besides! When I fly I tether myself to the broom and I can totally tether you, too!"
Shouta squints at him. "... You're talking about magic tethering, right?"
"Duh."
"You can't tether more than one thing at a time," Shouta points out bluntly. "Remember when you tried last time? With the solar system mobile you were trying to set up for the little kids down the street?"
"Hey, hey, I've been practicing!"
“My answer is no, Hizashi,” Shouta grumbles, crossing his arms and giving the witch a look. “Until you figure out how to tether multiple things at once and can do it reliably, I'm not getting on that broom of yours. You know, the one that some kids broke without even trying.”

His stove top won't turn on. Not even begging it for half an hour gets it to work.
As it turns out, his landlord doesn't care. "You've got magic,” he says, completely uncaring. “I'm not going to waste my time and money making sure you have things that you can provide for yourself. Figure it out – wave your hands and things will be fine."
“But I'm not that far into my studies – “ Hizashi tries to explain, but the man only fixes him with an unimpressed look.
“You constantly are making things light up or rain in that apartment of yours,” the man says, crossing his arms over his chest. “Utilities like electricity or water are provided for people that can't make it appear out of thin air. You're on your own, kid.”
The door gets slammed in his face.

Summary
Of course, then his mind wanders to Hizashi taking him on a broom ride on a night like this. He remembers distantly that sometimes Hizashi says he'll take some crystals with him on full moon nights and let the light of the moon soak into the stones so he can store the energy for later, something about being high above the normal levels of city air it being easier to gather that energy. Maybe the witch would let him tag along next time?
He's so distracted by these thoughts that he doesn't pay much attention to his surroundings, like he might normally.
Maybe, just maybe, if he wasn't tired or wasn't distracted by thoughts of holding Hizashi tight in his arms he'd have really paid attention to the thumps of something heavy and large behind him.
All Shouta knows, is that there's pain-terror-pain and then he's waking up from a fog in the hospital.
