Summary
“My dad says it’s not right for two mates to get on like this.” he said in a shaky voice after wiping the tears away. He looked distressed at Kieren before quietly asking, “But if it’s wrong, why do I only feel right around you?”
Rick and Kieren have slowly been realizing they have feelings for each other beyond friendship most of their teenage years. They find a place of their own to escape the rage of Rick's father deep in the woods of Roarton. Promises are made, a few broken, but along the way, they find something that only they know.

Summary
After the rising, Kieren and Rick are living two very different lives. Well, one of them at least is living. Rick's surviving the IED blast that should have left him dead has left him dealing with the reality that his leaving Kieren was ultimately why he had killed himself. After both have lived (at least partially) apart for a time, they reunite in Roarton, and Rick can only hope that this time he does right by Kieren.

Summary
Rick and Kieren have finally gotten out of Roarton, only to find that the rest of the world has some of the same attitudes they were trying to escape. Kieren attends art school while Rick works any job he can find to keep their apartment. Before long, tensions rise in their relationship, leading them to wonder if their grand escape from Roarton was worth it.
