Jim sighed walking towards the door to open it. And there in the hallway, like in that other night some weeks ago, he found Oswald Cobblepot. Well dressed. Standing straight. Smiling.

Jim tried to return the smile, but he couldn’t, he was too busy watching Oswald and trying to divert his eyes to anywhere else. Then, feeling that strange sensation in his stomach again, he knew he was in trouble, he knew that every single thing he had done since he became a detective was in danger, he knew he was fucked up, because he wanted to stay there, submerge himself in this foreign feeling mixed between excitement, fear, and distress. He just wanted to stay there, watching Oswald Cobblepot’s smile, and melt.

The first time Jim Gordon threw him against a wall, Cobblepot remembered, he had done it with rage, screaming. Oswald had been scared, despite being dramatic on purpose, he had been. He had thought for a moment that Jim was really going to beat him like people used to; he had been trembling. He was trembling now too, after Jim turned around and grabbed him by the collar of his shirt and pushed him against the wall like before. He wasn’t trembling for the same reasons now, though.
