Summary
This story picks up after the final episode of the first season of Detective Anna. That's episode 56 or 28, depending on where you are viewing it. And, thus, resolves the extremely unsatisfying cliffhanger of an ending.
More backstory & SPOILER ALERT if you have not seen all of Season 1 of Detective Anna: Anna (age 19-20) is a medium-in-training but has possessed the ability to see and communicate with the dead since she was a child. She lives in the smallish town of Zatonsk. Yakov is a well-respected criminal investigator who is transferred from St. Petersburg to Zatonsk under mysterious circumstances. All of this takes place in 1888-1890 Russia. Shtolman solves numerous murders in Zatonsk with the help of Anna; they of course fall in love but dance around a full-fledged romance until the very end of the season. Besides the episodic murder mysteries, there is a conspiracy story playing out. The end of the season sees Yakov uncovering some details of this conspiracy (not fully revealed to the viewers) and being hunted by the perpetrators. He goes missing from Anna's hotel room; she searches for him in vain. In the end the viewer and Anna do not know if he's alive.
