“What if he never gets better?”
Brian doesn’t know what to say to that. He thinks for a long moment, trying to fish any coherent thoughts out from somewhere inside the deep, aching sadness that’s swallowing him up inside. He wants to reassure Roger— and himself— he wants to say firmly “he will,” and have that be the end of the discussion. He can’t.
“I don’t know,” he answers finally, honestly.
It seems to be what Roger was expecting. And then,
“I don’t want to lose him, Bri.”
