Summary
Mace fell from the Chancellor’s Office and down onto Coruscant. An old friend would have said it was the Will of the Force that he survived. He doubted that it was the Will of the Force for so many Jedi to die all at once, at the hands of a Sith and a Fallen brother.
He did not Fall.It did not mean he expected to find reason to hope in these dark days.

Unlike most Commanders, when Order 66 came through, Ponds had not been with his General.
He regretted it.
Mace had been presumed dead after confronting the Chancellor, but Ponds wished he had been there even if he would have died too. He thought perhaps he might have helped, but he hadn't been.So, he would aid his General from within the Empire.

He had expected having to think over every tradition the Jedi had once held and pick and choose which ones were still possible to follow, which ones were still safe to do, which ones had to be adjsuted, which ones should be discarded, and which should be forgotten entirely.

Over the many years he’d known Obi-Wan’s lineage – from Yoda to Ahsoka – there were many times that he bemoaned ever meeting the whole host of sassy, trolling, independent DRAMA QUEENS. Because he couldn’t escape getting caught up in the chaos they caused.
Then Obi-Wan tried to out-do them all with how he came out of the ether like some Sith-cursed artifact.
