Karl froze, pencil halting mid-word. His heart clenched coldly in his chest, and his eyes flickered over to Sapnap.
Uhm...
Sapnap's finger hovered over the skip button, and Karl begged him to just press it.
I mean, uh... yes?
Sapnap's hand fell away, and Karl grit his teeth. Shit.
karl accidentally comes out to his best friend via song and proceeds to forget all forms of healthy communication. so he does the one thing he remembers how to do: he avoids.

“Oh,” Karl said finally, after they had checked out and stepped into the frigid January air. “That’s a song.”
“Hmm?” Sapnap hummed, shoving his hands into his pockets.
“The chocolate hearts thing that you said earlier,” he explained. “That reminded me of something, but I couldn’t remember what. It was a song.”
“Chocolate Hearts?” Sapnap guessed, climbing into the truck and slamming the door.
“No, it’s called CVS,” Karl replied, plugging his phone into the aux. “Let me play it for you.”
Sapnap yanked the shift into reverse, putting his hand on the corner of the passenger seat to look over his shoulder as the first notes rang through the speaker. He likes the gentle beat of the drum, and he tells Karl as much.
I’m starting to think I like, it begins, the sound of you and this city.
Sapnap guides the car as gently as possible over a patch of icy road. Karl sings along quietly beside him, and something dangerous twists in Sapnap’s gut.
I’m starting to think…
sapnap isn't good with college applications, and he isn't good with feelings. unfortunately, he must deal with both of these issues before he graduates.
