“Be nice.”
“I am nice,” Michelle says, making a face at Gayle who just raises an eyebrow.
“I am. I will be,” she whispers, Gayle snickering as Michelle continues, “I’m here, aren’t I?”
“Yeah,” Gayle says as the two walk together, “But you don’t exactly look excited about it.”
Michelle can’t help it if she feels a little blindsided, having been so involved in creating her own life for herself at ESU that she really hadn’t devoted any amount of time into getting to know the people that would be her new family.
Something that both her mom and her new step-father-to-be clearly agreed on, considering the potentially very awkward “first meeting of the family” that they’re all currently about to attend.

“Like what?” he asks with a grin, Michelle waddling over to their bedroom.
“Like you love me or something. Gross,” she says with a smirk, Peter grinning back at her— filled with so much hope and so much love for the future, dreaming of all the good things that were left to come.
