“Oh, since my own sister tried—and succeeded—in killing me? And I was mysteriously brought back to life?” he asked, suddenly vicious. She flinched. “Is that what you’re referring to?”
“Jespar.” Her voice was sharp. She had been crying when he woke up. He could see that it had shaken Heloise too, but he couldn’t decide if she deserved to be shaken by it. Maybe she did and she just didn’t deserve to be comforted. He wasn’t going to be the one to do it, anyway. She gave him a reprimanding look, but when she spoke again, it was softer. “I thought you might want to talk.”
