Summary
It was hard being without Percy, especially so soon after they'd gotten together. So soon after the Titan War. So soon after losing Thalia again, only this time to the Hunters. So soon after losing Luke.
Annabeth was sick of losing the few people she'd allowed into her heart, one way or another. Maybe it was time she stopped, once and for all, allowing people to get close to her, since all it had done in the past fifteen years of her life was cause her pain.
If only her new comrades aboard the Argo II would let her do just that, especially a certain daughter of Aphrodite.

Summary
If watching Annabeth go over the cliff's edge on the Manticore's back in seconds had felt like it had been one of the most painful hours of Percy's life, which at this point was saying a lot, then the week between then and reaching the summit of Mount Tamalpais and getting her back from Luke was the longest month to ever exist.
During the longest week to ever exist, even if they were just friends, Percy couldn't help but worry about Annabeth the whole time. Not just because of what he'd seen in his dreams about what Luke had done on Mount Tamalpais...well partially because of that, but mostly it was because he would never trust Luke around anyone Percy cared about. Despite what everyone else at Camp Half-Blood wanted to tell him about the old, caring, good Luke. And knowing that Annabeth still had a bit of a soft spot for Luke, even with all of the proof that he was evil and working with Kronos, didn't help ease Percy's worries in the slightest about her being held captive by him.
Luckily he has Grover to lean on when he needed it. Even if Thalia and Zoe were ready to kill him at a moment's notice.

Summary
He was happy for her, without a doubt in the universe. She was getting everything she could've ever wanted and more. Being given the title, responsibility, and honor of being the official Architect of Olympus, even if it was partly because they'd just beaten Kronos and stopped him from completely destroying and taking over Olympus. It was huge, even Percy knew that. All Annabeth had ever wanted to be was an architect, and build something that would stand forever, since she was a kid. And now, she was going to start just that with rebuilding Olympus.
He just didn't want to hold her back from any of it.

Summary
She knew that life as a Half-Blood was hardly ever fair. Annabeth Chase had known this painful fact for practically her entire life.
She'd been reminded for the first seven years of her life how much danger and the threats that were drawn to her just because she was a child of a Goddess. And by the time she was actually seven, still just a little, scared out of her mind kid, she lost Thalia. Her older sister got turned into a pine tree on Half-Blood Hill. Then six years later, Luke poisoned Thalia's tree, and one golden fleece later, she had a slightly older Thalia back.
Less than five months later, on a late December night, Annabeth lost her again. Just for once, she wanted life as a Half-Blood, her life as a Half-Blood, to be fair for just ten seconds.

Summary
Percy had always figured that, even if she wouldn't admit as much to him, let alone anyone else, that Annabeth had harbored some guilt about all of this stuff that had happened with Luke. So, when Annabeth finally did open up to him about all of it, Percy may not have been too sure about what to do, but without a doubt, he was going to be as supportive as he could be.
He'd do anything he could for her. Absolutely anything.

Between leading her very first quest, which just had to be navigating the Labyrinth, to thinking she let Percy get himself killed, to losing Luke to Kronos, only to lose Percy again to a stupid mortal. She was not a very happy camper. And this time she couldn't even run back home to avoid it all, Luke had made sure of that.

She had considered many things about joining the Hunters, long before Artemis had offered her a position in her ranks. (For the second time.) But it appeared that one thing she had neglected, or perhaps she'd just avoided thinking about it altogether, simply because it would be too hard to think about living a life without her.
Thalia knew that her little sister would be perfectly fine back at Camp Half-Blood without her, she had Chiron, Percy, and Grover to keep her occupied, along with all her other friends at Camp Half-Blood. But that still didn't make having to accept that she'd be going from seeing her every day to just seeing her every once in a while any easier.
But that just came with the territory of being a Hunter. And besides, Thalia definitely had her ways of checking in far more frequently than she needed to.
