Summary
Junhee is powerfully hedonistic; his afterlife designed for extravagance, indulgence to the extreme. Perhaps it’s because in life he had nothing, no one, often starving, the only wealth he boasted in suffering. It had been the same for his darlings. Donghun, the quintessential starving artist, and Yuchan, the lonely orphan, wild and endlessly tragic. He spares them no expense now. Spoiled, both of them, in every sense of the word, and rightfully so.

Summary
“What if I don’t want to bathe?”
Donghun turns the smooth golden handle, and speaks over the soft sound of rushing water. “What if I don’t give you a choice, dirty boy?”
“Realistically,” Yuchan says, peeling off his boxer briefs one leg at a time, “that is impossible.”
“Yes, I know you don’t sweat.” Donghun is telling him to come, a repeated wave of his hand that Yuchan knows is an order humble enough for him to disobey if he chooses. If his objection is true, if his arguments are more than banter. “But dirt still finds you, and I still like you smelling like rosewood.”

Summary
Junhee must have followed him, likely from the moment he left the apartment. It heats Donghun’s blood to imagine Junhee stalking him through Flushing Meadows, watching him wander through the melting snow and taking his time looking at the sky, the trees. It’s the invasion of his privacy, imagining Junhee privy to the softness of Donghun’s appreciation for nature and being alone that gets to him the most.
Donghun’s eyes flick from the plastic spines of the books to see Junhee leaned against the bookshelf over him, an annoying spectacle of arrogance. He grins, his teeth carefully blunt and human.

And then the logical conclusion descends around him like a veil parting. His heartbeat spikes, his breath short. His body, void of heartbeat, empty of blood. He shivers, wondering how long Junhee has known, how long he’s wanted.

Summary
“I think we can benefit each other. My—” Yuchan swallows, audibly, working his mouth in a way that makes Junhee aware that he hasn’t fed, and he’s run through his blood with hyperactivity, “—my friends are getting evicted, and they don’t have anywhere to go. We’re in need of blood and don’t use half the bedrooms. It would cost less to house them than it does for me to patron them. It just seems logical.”
“Is that what you think you are?” Junhee laughs, and he lets his teeth show this time. “Logical?”

Summary
Donghun hums from their left and startles them. He reaches out his hand to Byeongkwan’s own butterfly — the small tiger swallowtail tattoo at the base of their carotid, a few inches below the plain star underneath their ear. Both are far too personal for Donghun to touch, far more personal than eating a fruit from his hand. So personal, sometimes, that Byeongkwan wishes they hadn’t decided to place it on their neck, but on their stomach, or perhaps their back — somewhere easily hidden.

Summary
Donghun thinks of Sehyoon curled up in Junhee’s lap for the dozenth time, his wide lips caught in a moan. He hates it with a sickening passion — someone else as Junhee’s sustenance. Someone else in his veins, in his literal heart. It’s been his own privilege for so long.

Summary
“Would that make you feel better?” Junhee’s voice hardens, and his eyes with it. The look, his slitted eyes and hard-set mouth, pierces Donghun like an arrow, shrapnel exploding out from the center. “If I said yes, and I paid you to fuck me and feed me? Would it make you feel better to act it out while you pretend that you don't love me? When do my feelings get to matter to you, Donghun?”

Summary
Donghun jabs the bladepoint into his carotid just to watch Junhee jerk, then rests the flat of the blade against his Adam's apple. Smoke rises from his skin. “Why do you care about me?”
“You're soft.”
"Absurd.” Donghun lifts the blade until the skin heals and lowers it again. “Ask anyone I know."
Junhee swallows, winces as his words work his Adam’s apple against the metal. “I know you better than anyone.”

Summary
Byeongkwan pokes at Sehyoon’s side with their shoe. “Isn’t there—I don’t know, nuance to the idea?”
“Of murder? No.”
“I think you’re being stubborn and I think you’re using this as an excuse. I’ve never been good at psychoanalyzing and shit, but I think you’re scared of him now. I don’t know. Maybe scared is the wrong word. You’re avoiding him.”
“Yeah, because he mur—”

Summary
“Do you understand that some people are averse to that perfection?” Should Donghun be pushing? Likely not. But he craves some kind of reaction. “Some people find it repulsive. Some people are attracted to the mess, the authenticity.”
“Some people.” Byeongkwan looks at him, and their eyes soften before they can flutter away. “Like you?”

Summary
The book lies open to a sketch of two plants: one straight being lit from above, and another lit from the side, growing towards the right.
“Did you know,” Donghun says, crossing his legs to make room from Junhee to sit, “that in time all flowers will bend towards the sun?”
Junhee blinks repeatedly, and rubs at his eye. “I guess? I don’t see the sun much, you might remember.”
“Light stimulus produces auxin, which causes the stem to grow directionally.” Donghun points to the illustration. “It’s a survival mechanism, if you look at it the right way.”

Summary
Junhee knows his eyes color at the metaphor. He blinks through a sharp sting of tears and remembers, though he’d not exactly forgotten, why he loves Yuchan; why he let him into his home and his heart. At his core, past the impish impulses, Yuchan is a mountain spring dotted with wildflowers. Yuchan is exemplary of some of the best things humanity has to offer—argent light immune to tarnish, honest and spirited to a fault.
Junhee never had to dig into Yuchan’s guts, metaphorically or not—he’s always been here, raw and inviting, handing himself over before Junhee asks.

Summary
“There’s no hiding after this,” Junhee says against his lips, pressing his hand into the small of Donghun’s back. “I’ll know you inside out. I’ll know all of you forever.”
Donghun presses each of his fingertips against Junhee’s thumb claw, a succession of feather-light touches punctuated by a look that might be reverence; after a long moment of head-tilted thought he drives it into the skin under his collarbone and tears down. Junhee feels Donghun split underneath the point; from chest to belly he opens himself on Junhee’s nail, gasping with every inch. The weight of the declaration isn’t lost on Junhee: Yes, forever. Take what is yours.

Summary
“The sound of a heartbeat calms me down. I’d like to listen to yours.”
Sehyoon stares. The words might sound like a pickup line, but the impression Junhee gives them is exposed, like maybe he just handed Sehyoon a wooden stake and bared his chest. If that even works on real vampires. Sehyoon supposes he should ask about that.
Instead, Junhee just looks tired, disheveled in a way Sehyoon hasn’t seen. Clean, put together, and still with an air of class that leaves him feeling sacrosanct. But something is inherently wrong, and if Sehyoon can help with this simple thing—this very simple thing in which Sehyoon is clearly his only choice, now—it feels selfish not to.
