He opens the small square envelope and slides a similar-looking square white card out. Something else falls with it like a drop of blood to the floor.
He frowns, before leaning down to take it into his hand, rubbing the small red petal between his thumb and forefinger and revelling in the feel of the soft velvet as he thinks.
I miss you, the card reads.
