Summary
Yohan sees it in action that night. Elijah is in her room, either working on her assignments or sleeping- he hasn’t gone to check but it’s no doubt one of the two- and Gaon is on the couch in his office, a book open in his lap. Yohan spares a brief glance up, and then a second, and then a third. The image is familiar, too familiar.
Gaon sits, leaning against the left side of the couch, his legs crossed and underneath him, and the book held up to his eyes. His hair, freshly washed, isn’t parted as Gaon usually wears it, but closer to Yohan’s own preferred style of leaving it down in his eyes at home.
Gaon is the spitting image of Isaac. The way he holds himself, the way he holds the book, his hair.
It’s purposeful. Yohan knows it is. He looks away, back to the documents on his desk, but when he glances up, again, for just one more look, Gaon is smiling.
Smug bastard.

Summary
Among the videos Elijah manages to dig up is one that feels so much more voyeuristic than the last few Gaon watched. Some are old, old enough that the Yohan that appears a few times can’t be more than fifteen, sixteen. Those are ones that Gaon doesn’t feel bad watching, eagerly swallowing any form of Yohan that’s different from the one he knows.
(Yohan told him he’d never understand him. But Gaon would be damned if he didn’t at least try to understand him. He' had never been one to bend over or be pushed in directions. And, if he’s honest, it sounded like a challenge.
Everything sounded like a challenge from Yohan.)

Summary
Yohan is better at playing pretend out there, so he doesn’t bother here, Elijah said. Gaon is certain she’s wrong. Yohan plays pretend at home and exists as himself in the world outside their little grove of peace. Yohan thrives in survival mode, when it is kill-or-be-killed.
Yohan is prey and predator wrapped into a suit, dangerous and aware of his own danger at all times. He camouflages in the wild, blends in with the socialites and the rich, and he blends in with the courts and the lawyers and judges. Out in the world, Yohan blends in, in jeans and a hoodie, his hair messy, a mask covering his identity. Yohan blends in when he smashes cars that piss him off, corners people that irritate him until they piss themselves with fear.
This softer, gentler Yohan, this is the pretend Yohan.

Summary
It takes a minute for Yohan’s words to sink in. Elijah knows her expression has to mirror Gaon’s, mouth open and nothing but shock showing. For Yohan to trust someone is rare. For Yohan to explicitly state it, as plainly as he had, was, frankly, unthinkable.
