Summary
“Two years,” she finally said, hand starting to reach across the table before she pulled it away. “Come find me in two years.”
“And then?” He asked, voice raw and tainted with sorrow. She hated to be the cause, but hoped that maybe one day, she’d be forgiven for what she was doing to him today.
“And then,” she told him, smiling wistfully, “I’ll give you an answer to that question.”

Summary
Iruka stared at Kakashi for a long moment, taking in the one-eyed stare from up close. He knew that this night wouldn’t lead to anything real, that when they woke up to deal with the aftermath of their night together, he and Kakashi would pick up the pieces of this disaster that they were getting themselves into and move on with their lives.
But those thoughts could wait until the morning.
For now, he didn’t want to know what might happen tomorrow. He just wanted to drink in Kakashi, have Kakashi fuck him, and dance the night away in sensual moans.

Summary
Perhaps if she spoke the words again and again, if she held onto his name, onto those fleeting remembrances of memories, she could remember what his love felt like. It had been two years since the well had thrown her back into the future, two years since she had seen her mate, two years since she had last seen his gaze land upon her.
But night after night as she had the vivid dreams and memories came to haunt her, night after night when she chanted his name in the dark, night after night when she fingered her mating mark she knew he was there.

Summary
Kakashi muffled out a groan as the crop thudded against his back, the thwap of it hitting skin echoing in the otherwise silent room.
“Number?” Iruka commanded.
Kakashi didn’t answer immediately, the sting still the sharpest thing on his mind. He took some deep breaths.
He heard Iruka move and waited to see where his partner would touch him again. This time, instead of using his hands, Iruka trailed the crop up his sternum until it reached his chin, using the flat end to lift it, until Kakashi’s neck was held vulnerable to his gaze.
Kakashi knew what Iruka was looking at: his face flush with desire, mouth open in want, body coated with a sheen of sweat, cock hard and heavy, waiting for the release only Iruka’s words could give him.

Summary
Do you have someone to protect?
He did now, but only after years of fighting to listen to what he knew was important.
And now, centuries after his father’s words resonated with him, he stood at the threshold of the kitchen, watching his mate cook with his grandpups, going unnoticed by them all. She still radiated that same warm smile and comforting aura that had attracted him to her all those years ago. She still had that kindness in her soul that he was fond of even though he found it exasperating at times. She still held herself proudly, never letting go of the fiery spirit of hers that made her so revered by youkai and human alike as the years had gone by.
There were days he would wake up to her soft snores as her wavy black curls tickled his chest, and he didn’t dare move lest he wake her from her peaceful slumber. He could watch for hours as she slept on, considering it such a privilege to know that she had chosen him out of all the others to spend the rest of her life with. And when she woke and would playfully scold him around loving smiles for watching her sleep, he would drink in the moment, imprinting it in his mind forever, lest he forget.

Summary
“Tomorrow,” Kagome told him, her eyes refusing to meet his, blue eyes coated in sorrow.
“Your wedding.” His voice was cold, cutting deep into her soul and shattering her already broken heart more than she ever thought it could be possible.
“Yes.”

Summary
The day that cursed jewel whisked her away, a year into their mating, he had felt his soul break in two, felt the crushing weight of knowing that his other half was gone, lost to him through the vestiges of time. He had scoured the lands, nearly torn apart the well in his desperation, until he eventually had to admit that she was gone.
Gone were her warm smiles, her acts of kindness in the dull vestiges of his day. Gone were her blue eyes that seemed to always follow him and find him. Gone was her laugh: bright and airy and full of life and love.
“Kagome.” He whispered her name in a plea sinking down onto the floor.

Summary
“Sesshomaru,” she whispered, leaning closer, “are you still…upset?”
The last word fell from red lips, tinted that way by heavy lipstick. She still seemed to prefer Chanel Rouge. There were still shirts of his, one that he hid in the back of his wardrobe, that had the imprint of those red lips on their collars. But, as she thought about her words, his anger grew to replace the memories.
Upset? He scoffed. Was that the most pitiful apology she could offer after what she’d done? He still remembered it, waking up alone in the hotel room in Vienna, a ring box open on the nightstand, a letter written on hotel stationary near it. The ring that she’d worn proudly on her finger for two years rested inside the box, and the letter only said two words.
I’m sorry.

Summary
He sometimes wondered if he was like Icarus, only his sun was Kakashi and the wax he used to hold his wings was nothing more than the broken snippets of words and phrases that Kakashi had thrown his way over the years. They were scraps, but they were scraps that Tenzo treasured. And they eventually gave way, melting just like the wax on Icarus’s wings, leaving Tenzo bereft and broken, alone in a sky where the only path to take was down.
And while those scraps always fell away at the end of nights like this, the glue of Kakashi’s actions no longer holding them together; when Kakashi pulled away and pulled his guard back up, where Kakashi became distant and acted like they were only fuck buddies, he would gather those tattered words together and try again, and again, and again just like Icarus and his father.
And he would remember that wax not only melted but lost its power as it hit the water. He would remember this, as he drowned in the words and phrases, as he swam through these moments, gasping like a man starved of breath, when the nights would end, and Kakashi would leave.
Because he always did.

Summary
And on those rare days when he woke before Iruka, as the low morning light graced his lover’s sleeping face, Tenzo would pull out a notebook and describe what he saw so that he would never forget. He would trace each line on Iruka’s peaceful face with flowing words, describe the way Iruka looked in the soft morning sunlight using the most romantic of metaphors, and highlight the way his lover made him feel in carefully crafted phrases.
And when Iruka would wake, he would put the notebook away, and his hands would reach out to thread through Iruka’s hair as he brought him closer for an early morning kiss.
His writing continued to flourish and the novel he was writing began to change, becoming a clear story in his mind. By the time he realized how much Iruka meant to him, Iruka had already become his muse.
