Mike can imagine the expression on her face as the silence spills into the rest of the house. He pictures it soaking into the carpet in the living room, dripping down the stairs into the basement, invading every corner of the house and forcing him to remember this moment for the rest of his life.
Even if things somehow go alright, Mike thinks he might need to leave.
