She’s been home for an hour and in that entire time she hasn’t stopped talking. She came in the door already talking, talked while she toed her shoes off, and dropped her bag on the floor. Talked while she stripped out of her work clothes, and pulled one of his soft t-shirts over her head, and while she watched him make dinner. Talked while they ate it, too, so he wasn’t sure how the food was even disappearing from her plate.
She yammered a mile a minute, like her mother times twelve, and now, in the living room, she’s still doing it, and honestly, he loves her, he does, more than anything in the world, but he just can’t take it anymore.

Summary
They meet in the girls’ bathroom on the first day of eleventh grade.
It’s lunch, which she would ordinarily spend with Lane, at the table they claimed in the cafeteria way back at the beginning of freshman year, but Lane’s not back from Korea yet, not for another few days, and Rory doesn’t know how to navigate Stars Hollow High on her own. That’s the point of having a best friend, isn’t it, so that there’s always someone by your side in the trenches of high school? Isn’t that why she’d decided not to go to any of those fancy private schools she had looked at with Lorelai last year? So she wouldn’t have to leave Lane behind? And now look at her, the lonely nerd spending lunch in an empty girls’ bathroom on the first day of school.
Only it’s not empty. There’s a boy in here.
