Summary
The Valyrian Freehold’s unbroken dominion had brought to their shores exotic beauties from afar, some with sable hair and other with fire-bright strands, and most with milk-white skin to set them apart from the Essosi rabble. These daughters of Westeros were sent to serve as prized companions or able nurturers, but most often found themselves warming the beds of Valyrian men. In due course, sons and daughters were born of such unions. While the boys could be used in the many ongoing land disputes as able footsoldiers, daughters were another matter. Pure-bloods never deigned to wed half-bloods, no matter how lovely or clever. Thus most were kept away in women’s quarters, fed and pampered and trotted out at feasts to enliven flagging moods. At times they served as amusement, payment or comfort for men of the household.
Aegon Targaryen learns an unexpected lesson about power at the hands of a mere natural daughter.

Summary
She, on the other hand, had another matter to take care of. With light steps, Jaehaera made her way to the cellars dug deep beneath the keep. Father had forbidden anyone entry save herself and his own person. ‘Twas where one might find him, working tirelessly at his art even as old wounds threatened to collapse him. “Father, will you not rest a moment?” she called from the doorway, careful to position herself so that his one working eye might see her in the dim light of the candles. He staggered and she rushed forth, pushing her weight to brace him as a thin scaled tail darted away into the shadows.
Jaehaera learns that not every victory is a mark of success.
