Father had forbidden anyone entry save herself and his own person. ‘Twas where one might find him, working tirelessly at his art even as old wounds threatened to collapse him. “Father, will you not rest a moment?” she called from the doorway, careful to position herself so that his one working eye might see her in the dim light of the candles. He staggered and she rushed forth, pushing her weight to brace him as a thin scaled tail darted away into the shadows.
