Aubrey Daniels had always been somewhat of a romantic; when she fell, she fell hard and fast. But after being burned and her confidence at rock bottom, she gives up hope. Who would want a chubby baker with zero self-confidence? Enter Steve Rogers, who walks into her bakery saying and doing all the right things, making her think there is hope.
Steve Rogers was lonely, but he was content with his loneliness. He wasn’t actively seeking anything; call it fate or divine intervention (As Sam Wilson calls it).
